Thank you everyone for your understanding about the show cancellation today.
We had over 70 students in our care when we made the earlier App update so we were not able to write a detailed update at that time.
When the decision was made to cancel, it was raining and the stage was wet and slippery. There was a grass floor in the change/holding area which meant all the students’ shoes were wet and muddy (adding to the risk of someone falling on stage).
In addition there was a leak on the roof of the stage with water dripping on to the floor. The leak was located where the students were dancing. There was another dance school performing before us and we witnessed a number of their students fall on stage.
We were receiving many texts and emails from our students pulling out of the performance due to the rain. We were also receiving many texts and phone calls from families wanting confirmation about whether the performances should go ahead. As a result we felt under pressure to make a decision so that everyone in the later shows had as much warning as possible. Given the circumstances at the time, the decision we made to cancel and it was the right decision at that time as it was not a safe environment and we had no indication that the weather would improve.
We know the cancelled performance is very disappointing for our students. However we have a duty of care and we have to prioritize this at all times no matter how difficult the consequences.
Please be reassured that it was not a decision we made lightly. We too are very disappointed, putting on a show like this is expensive with staff costs, all the preparation beforehand and now all of the extra admin involved in cancelling. A lot of time has been put into providing this show so we feel everyone’s disappointment.
The actual event is still running and tickets are still valid for entry.
